Tribute: Erin Getzler

Our Little Butterfly Girl

Erin Getzler lost her long battle to life to a brain tumor. On March 30th, six year old Erin lost her battle to a brain tumor. She fought long and hard. I could remember the first time I met her was just after her first brain surgery. She greeted me with a smile that stole my heart. She was precious. I was grateful to her family for letting The Guardian Brain Foundation and me assist in giving them support .Then Erin had a second surgery. I was touched by the strength the family taught us. I kept them in my heart and prayers.

In October 2006 The Guardian Brain Foundation along with Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Assemblyman David McDonough, and the Getzler family gathered for a special evening for Erin. Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman David McDonough provide the Guardian Brain Foundation grants to provide support services to brain tumor patients. We are grateful for their grants. It was an evening we all will hold close to our hearts. There were presents for Erin and her family from The Guardian Brain Foundation. Certificates were presented to Erin because of the inspiration she gives to all who know her. She asked me, is this all for me”. I told her, Yes you are a true inspiration”. She was delighted and danced around the table. You are our little butterfly girl. We are grateful for the memories of that evening. Erin is quite an artist. She colored Butterflies for us .I presented Erin with a lithograph of one of my original oil paintings. It’s a little girl hiding behind a tree chasing butterflies with a stick. She loved it.

In memory of Erin Getzler, I am donating to the children’s ward at Winthrop Hospital chasing butterflies. I hope this will bring a moment of peace to all the children and their families.

The Guardian Brain Foundation is a non- profit 501 (c) (3) foundation based in Bellmore. Our mission is to provide support services to children and adults with injuries and tumors of the brain. We believe in the quality of life and sharing compassion. We are all volunteers.

The Guardian Brain Foundation was created in memory of my dear brother Dennis who was succumbed to a cancerous brain tumor in three months, and my father who lost a one year battle to CJD also known as “mad cow”
