Inspiration: Susan Schell – A true inspiration

Two days before her eighteenth birthday, Susan Robbins Schell was in a car accident that left her seriously injured and claimed the life of her good friend. Near death, Susan lay in a coma for three weeks, and when she awoke she had lost her sight. But despite the fragility of her body, Susan spirit was incredibly strong. Bolstered by the belief that her life had been spared for a reason, she decided that no matter what it took, she could and would rise above her disability and go on to help others do the same.

Susan continues to inspire those she meets with her personal story of courage, hope, and determination. After recovering from her injuries, she went on to fulfill her goal of enrolling at St. Joseph’s Patchogue Campus, from which she graduated in 1990 in a degree in human relations.

Susan found her true niche as co- host of a weekly cable television show featuring people with disabilities. The program provided the perfect opportunity for Susan to share with many more people her message of positive thinking and her belief in one’s ability to truly embrace life no matter what the circumstances.

After having completed 300 episodes with that particular program, Susan was thrilled to be embarking on a new TV show of her own, entitled “Making A Difference” Its main message is that it is entirely possible for a person with a disability to enjoy a quality of “life in the mainstream” Susan explained.
