Butterflies Across Bellmore

Bellmore Herald News, October 25-31, 2007

On a recent summer-like day, dozens of butterflies were released on the front lawn of Martin Avenue Elementary School in North Bellmore. The event was held to honor the short life of Erin Getzler, who was 6 years old and a first-grade student at the school last March when she died of a brain tumor. The butterfly is the symbol of the Bellmore-based Guardian Brain Foundation, a non-profit group that provided support for Erin and her family during her ordeal. Shown are fifth-graders Brendan Getzler, one of Erin’s older brothers, and classmate Charles Skidmore, with a paper butterfly crafted for the event.
