Inspiration: Addison Michaela Garvey

Addison was born with Moebius Syndrome which is a rare neurological disorder. It primarily affects the 6th and 7th cranial nerves, leaving those with the condition unable to move their faces (they can’t smile, frown, suck, grimace or blink their eyes) and unable to move their eyes laterally. Other cranial nerves may be affected causing hand/feet anomalies, respiratory problems, speech problems, sensory issues and weak upper body strength.

Addison spent most of her life hospitalized. During her first three months, Addison was in four different hospitals. In addition to the abundance of testing (some of which were invasive), Addison underwent a tracheostomy to stabilize her ability to breathe and G-tube surgery to provide proper nutrition. Additionally, she completed serial casting for her bilateral clubfoot, followed by a tenectomy procedure on each foot. She is now required to wear a brace 23 hours daily for at least the next eight months. Addison finally arrived home in time for her 3 month birthday. Despite Addison’s challenges she is adjusting well to being in her nursery. She truly is a fighter.
